Light is not a single thing, it is a chorus of wavelengths woven through space. In this rite, Prismatica turns the textbook claim of "white light is composed of many colors" into a sensory ritual: place a prism in the path of a beam, and the seam splits open.

She is honoring the legacy of Dr. Shirley Ann Jackson, whose work in theoretical physics enabled the technologies that read these wavelengths today. Every fiber-optic strand in your phone began with the question this lesson asks: what is light made of?

"To refract is to declare every wavelength worthy of its own line."

By the end of this chapter, she analyzes the electromagnetic spectrum, models wave behavior with a homemade slit experiment, and writes a one-page reflection mapping a single discovery from her own day to a wavelength.

I built the cardboard slit spectrometer at home. My LED bulb shows 3 bands, RGB. Glow tubes show way more. Why??

Jaylynn, exactly. LEDs are narrow-band emitters; glow tubes are gas discharge. You've just discovered emission spectra. Take it to Chapter 05.
